Make free calls from an iPhone to any phone free with sip
Fring is an application for jail-broken iPhones and now iPhones/Touches with the App store. It's a free app either way. This video demonstrates making a call from an unactivated iphone to a regular cell phone using a protocol know as sip (session initiation protocol). Sip goes through the internet and connects with landline and cell phones on the phone grid.
In order for a SIP call to be placed, first you need a SIP carrier. The one I found allows you to make about 10mins worth of calls for free per account. Free Call allows you to register quickly here and get going with SIP.
But hold on a sec, Fring requires that you add other information before you can make a call. This being ports and server addresses. Lucky for you, here are Free Call's addresses:
SIP port : 5060
Registrar : sip.voiparound.com
Proxy server : sip.voiparound.com
Outbound proxy server : leave empty
Account name : your FreeCall username
Password : your FreeCall password
Display name/number : your FreeCall username or voipnumber
Stunserver (option) : stun.voiparound.com
These can also be found here.
If you have any questions, just drop a comment.
Cheers :)

Does this work in Australia ? Doessnt seem to want to work for me. I set up an account with free calls and downloaded fring. All it asked me was to put in username and password for the isp (in fring) plus the proxy server?
ReplyDeleteShould i be putting in more of the above details elsewhere?
