My sister, who is a recent graduate from college with a degree in history, decided to apply for the Peace Corp. Throughout college, it was her dream to see the world and the Peace Corp seemed a viable asset toward its fulfillment. After months of checking emails in hopes of a response, the acceptance message came through, assuring her a job in the Ukraine as an English Teacher. She was agog.
However, the chord struck by the Peace Corp acceptance soon feel egregiously out of its harmonic. The Peace Corp began to release more details about my sister's trip and posted a departure date. It was one day before our brother's wedding. Frantically, my sister got on the phone with the Peace Corp supervisor of her region. His response was to the effect of, "If you're not on the plane, you're not going."
My sister fell quickly into cognitive dissonance. One one side, her brother's wedding, which only occurs once; and on the other side, the Peace Corp, which is almost equally as scarce. There can only be one choice unfortunately.
